On April 12, 1930, Sausalito hosted the social event of the year with the launching of Crocker’s new schooner. Crocker’s friend, Academy Award winning screen actress Marie Dressler had the honors of christening the vessel but missed the bow of the Zaca with the bottle of Champagne. The bottle wound up in the mud and Zaca in the Bay.
Properly christened or not, Zaca was born into a charmed life and promptly sailed off to take Templeton Crocker and a few friends on a yearlong voyage around the world.
